The PM's self-delusional mis-statements about defence manufacturing and R&D

EXTRACT FROM DEFENCE MINISTRY STATEMENT

This is an extract from an official release the Ministry of Defence put out today. Simply speaking, it is just making up nonsense and putting the words in the mouth of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Apparently the PM said (his remarks are in blue lower case, my remarks in CAPITALISED RED):

“The defence sector of India used to be very strong even before independence.” NO, MODI-JI, EVERYONE KNOWS WE HAD ZERO DEFENCE INDUSTRY IN 1947.

“At the time of independence, there were 18 Ordnance factories in the country where many types of military equipment, including artillery guns, were made.” HE WAS SILENT ON THE FACT THAT THERE ARE 40 ORDNANCE FACTORIES IN INDIA TODAY!

“India was an important supplier of defence equipment in World War 2.” NO, Mr PM, WE WERE NOWHERE NEAR BEING A MAJOR DEFENCE SUPPLIER!”

“Our howitzers, machine guns made at the Ishapur Rifle Factory were considered the best.”       MODI-JI, WILL YOU THEN TELL US WHY, UNTIL THE 1962 CHINA WAR, OUR INFANTRY WAS USING AN OUTDATED, BOLT ACTION RIFLE?

“We used to export a lot.” NO WE DID NOT. ONLY NOW ARE WE TRYING TO BOOST EXPORTS.

During the Corona period, India made strides in economy, manufacturing and science.  NO, WE DID NOT. THE ECONOMY TANKED AND REMAINS AT A LOW EBB

“During the initial decades of independence, there was no focus on the development of defence production and research and development was severely limited, due to it being restricted to the government sector.” THE PROBLEM WAS NOT JUST THAT, BUT ALSO AROSE FROM THE FACT THAT THE PRIVATE SECTOR WAS KEPT OUT OF DEFENCE PRODUCTION.”

BUT AT LEAST, IN THOSE DAYS THE PRIME MINISTER DID NOT LIE TO THE COUNTRY. AND A MANUFACTURING BASE WAS ESTABLISHED THAT SUPPORTS DEFENCE R&D TODAY.

  1. You are just freaking petty, the defense industry was in perils under your Gandhi overlords, who loved to import everything and incentivized poor functioning in the defense PSU's. India had 18 factories before independence, now its 40, the question is what did the 40 have to show prior to 2010? Nothing proportional to the investment made in it. "Important" supplier and "Major" supplier are two different categories - may I remind you that we were slaves of British so we only made what we were asked to make- think through your own comments. Yes, the Indian defense exports went up during Corona, and yes the global economy tanked- open your eyes and look around- I am assuming you are educated- the whole world is in recession, name one country who is not spared- so stop acting smart. Post independence who kept the defense sector out of reach of private sector? Modi or your caste based political party who raise their skirts on hearing the name Gandhi?
You claim to have fought the China war, right? so weren't the Gandhi's in power then? why question Modi on use of sub-standard weapons then? think.. sometime you got to resist the urge of flying off the handle and sit back and think what the big picture- he is attempting to nurture and grow an industry that is funded by private money (not the Shukla or Gandhi's corrupt money), he is trying to find inspiration from somewhere were there is no inspiration to be found- understand the purpose. I understand you don't like Modi - but have the courage to appreciate what this government has done and their willingness to take difficult decisions at cost of their own vote bank, wait you won't understand that. May be one day when you get some maturity, until then run to every white man's news channel to give your anti-unity speech - after all the Britishers won cause they could divide and rule us due to individuals like you!
